Good news

Why the picture of a cichlid? Because it was there for the taking. And cichlids are cool because they take care of their young. Not many fish do that. Of course this one doesn't do that because it lives in a jar of alcohol in my vert lab. Chichlosoma cyanoguttatum, Nigromaculatus pomoxis, Scianops ocellatus, Anguilla rostrata, Dasyatis americana, Perca flavescens. Just five of the 30 or so fish genus species I memorized for my lab practical. The Rio Grande Cichlid, black crappie, red drum, freshwater eel, southern stingray, yellow perch. Not to mention all the amphibians I memorized as well. Yet all those hours of preparation and memorizing got me a 78. Sometimes I hate my life.

Here I go again putting off studying for my test to write some random stuff. I just don't enjoy molecular genetics. I don't know why. I love organic chemistry, and I like population genetics, but just can't stand molecular genetics. It doesn't help that my teacher is about as entertaining as a brick of cheese. It's like listening to Ben Stein, except he's not joking. Anyway, last night miguel told me that he was going to put in his two week's notice because he missed me and Chloe too much. I talked him out of doing that last week by telling him that he could put in his two weeks once he gets a job lined up down here, because I used every last cent we had saved up when he lost his job a few months ago, and I haven't been able to save anything up since then. I would love to think that real life is like the movies and that love is all you need, but it's not. We need money so we can feed Chloe and keep the house and pay for electricity, etc. I'm sure you all know what I mean. I felt kind of bad discouraging him, but I have to be realistic. I pay all of our bills, and sometimes I don't think he realizes how much it costs just to exist. Anyway, I couldn't really talk him out of it last night, and I got pretty worried after taking a look at the classifieds, and realizing that he would probably be making $8.00 per hour at a crappy job when he came home, if he was lucky. But he called me this morning and told me that when he told his boss he wanted to come home, he offered him an immediate $5.00 per hour raise and said that if I wanted to come live with Miguel in the summer, he would pay for an apartment for us. Thank God, Miguel took him up on the offer. That's such good news. It was pretty frustrating because we were led to believe that Miguel would be making tons more money in Indiana, but after all the taxes come out, he's making about the same amount of money he was making here. So now it might actually be worth our time to have him stay there for a while so I can get our savings built back up. And that's not the end of the good news. I might get to see him next week! His boss also told him that they may get 7 days off for easter and set him up with a ride to Corpus with one of the other workers. I hope I get to see him. Anyway, I really should study. It sounds like Chloe finally fell asleep (it's nap time, whether she likes it or not), so I need to take advantage of that.

Man, you have to learn a LOT of crazy stuff. The chiclid is kind of cool - dead or alive....
