Last week I had an OBGYN appointment. They always start off by taking my weight. For the first three months of this pregnancy, I only put on 1 or 2 pounds. Well, last month was another story entirely. I could hardly believe the scale, and when my doctor came in, he was looking at my chart and he said, "oh, you gained 7 pounds last month!" That's all he said about it, but that was a wake-up call. Right now, I weigh as much as I did when I delivered Chloe. And I still have three months to go. So today, I decided it's time to make some changes. My eating habits aren't terrible, but they could use a little improvement. So, no more chocolate pop tarts for lunch. They're just so easy to take with me to school, but if I just get up a little earlier, I can pack a healthier lunch. Today I took an apple, some pineapple, graham crackers, and a pack of fruit snacks. And when I got home, I had left over whole-wheat spaghetti. If I can keep that up, I know it'll help. But more significantly, I finally made use of the school gym. I rode the stationary bike for 15 minutes and then did 15 minutes on the elliptical thing. It felt SO good! I'd forgotten how much I love to work out. Of course, I took it easy because I'm 6 months pregnant and I haven't worked out at all since before I got pregnant. But I got my heart pumping, and it felt so great. And I still feel great! I'm not all sore and achy like I've been the past few weeks.
Here's my goal: Get a good cardiovascular workout 4-5 days a week for at least 30 minutes and pack healthier lunches for school. I'm not trying to lose weight, because I know that's dangerous while pregnant, but hopefully I'll be able to maintain my weight for the most part. And getting into the routine now will make it a lot easier to lose the weight after I have the baby.
One more thing. I was kind of talking down about the school's work out facilities to someone on the phone. Well, that was unfair of me because I'd never been anywhere past the front desk. It's not a big building, but they really do have a lot of machines to work out on. ISU only had a small room for cardio machines, and the room was either locked up or totally full of people. At this university the cardio machines are mixed in with the weight training, but there are really a lot of options and plenty of machines for everyone. That may not be true during the fall and spring semesters when enrollment is higher, but for now, it seems to be a plethora.
Well, I do have some homework I need to get done. Since I just went public with my work out goal I'm hoping I'll actually stick with it.

a. count your lucky stars you aren't on bed rest. i gained way more weight with this one, too. b. when i went to UVSC, i took a required fitness class during the summer and while it was a small college, it had two gyms right next to each other so there was plenty of room. i loved going in early, puttin on some sweet tunes, and not having to worry about people invading my space. i don't like my chubbs displayed much. moral of the story, it's ok to gain more weight with your second one. but also, if you can and want to control it, i say more power to you and i'm jealous. now i have all that stupid bed rest weight to get off.
You go girl! Maintainace is a GOOD thing. It does feel good to exercise doesn't it? I do much better when I don't expect more than the feel good feeling. When I'm counting on wieght loss I get discouraged fast. It sounds like you have a reasonalbe goal and it shouldn't hurt la chiquita.
