I heard a knock at my door this morning and it was my neighbor checking to see if I'd seen anything last night regarding their most recent theft. This time, I had. And now I feel bad because if I weren't totally socially impaired, perhaps I could have stopped it. I was cleaning squirrel bones last night and I know I finished up at about 10:20 and then I went outside to fill the jar with gasoline. While I was in the backyard, I heard people moving around in their driveway, which is nothing new. Because I fear eye contact, I kept my eyes on what I was doing and never looked over at their house. While I was out there, I heard their garbage can being moved, which reminded me that tomorrow was garbage day. So I went inside, put my squirrel bones jar in the back bedroom and went outside to take the trash out. As I was dragging it to the curb, I saw a vehicle drive down the street with my neighbor's big bar-b-que grill thing in the back. I remember thinking there was something strange about the situation, but I decided they probably were just lending it to a friend. Nope. It was being stolen. And perhaps if I had just looked up even once while I was getting my gasoline, maybe I would have been able to describe the thieves or maybe it would have freaked them out to be seen and maybe they would have left. But all I could offer was an approximate time it was stolen and a vehicle description of "a dark vehicle, either a jimmy or a truck." That was a pretty bold move on the thieves' behalf. My neighbors were obviously home at the time, and I know for a fact that there was a bright light shining right on the thieves, because that's how I was able to see what I was doing with the gas can. Also, it really wasn't that late. And, they didn't pack up and leave when they heard me open my back door and maybe even saw me in the back yard. If only I hadn't given up my yappy Lily dog- she would have sounded the alarm. Needless to say, I don't feel too safe with bold thieves like that around. I talked to Miguel a few days ago and he thinks he'll be home before Thanksgiving. That's not too far away. I'll feel better having another adult here. If he weren't coming home soon, I would probably be going to the humane society to pick out a big dog with a scary bark yet a gentle nature. I was going to post a cute picture of a dog, but Blogger's being stupid.
Sorry, I don't have any new pictures of the girls. This week was supposed to be my easy week, and it hasn't been too bad, but I have managed to cram it full of stuff and have left little time for anything fun, including picture taking. But they're both doing well. Chloe's ear infection seems to be all cleared up. Leyla is still getting congested at night, but then again, so am I. But her congestion isn't getting worse and she hasn't had any other symptoms of illness yet, so let's keep our fingers crossed because she's uninsured right now. Her insurance application is probably sitting on the desk of some bureaucrat with a layer of dust on it.
Well, I need to work on something for my mammalogy class.

That's scary having that stuff happen right next door. I really hope Miguel can get home before Thanksgiving and stay there this time. And that's good Chloe's ear infection is cleared up. I haven't had to deal with that yet.
Geeze Louise! It's like living next door to the culprits of COPS - bad boys, bad boys, whatch gonna do???
Well, I'm glad they didn't do anything other than to them, but it IS worrisome. It'll be good to have Miguel home, assuming he doesn't plan to hang out at the neighbors too much that is...
Don't beat yourself up about not making eye contact - what if you had and they had decided you were a threat or something. I'm not saying "do nothing" I'm saying don't ask for trouble... You've got yourself and two babies to consider. They are the ones with the ghetto ties.
That may not sound too charitable but I'm all about YOU being safe.
Hang in there.
Wow! I totally thought of the show COPS just like your mom. I wouldn't feel bad you didn't see who they were- it's not your job to have to watch your neighbors house like that. Plus getting yourself involved could only end in drama for you. I am so glad to hear Miguel is coming back soon so you can feel safer with someone else there. Keep your doors locked (OMG I sound just like my mom :))
I'm all with Crazy lady on this one. Eye contact? Yeah, maybe like a street dog they take that as a threat and attack.
You take care of you, those babies and the squirrel bones and after THAT consider the rest.
Now the gasoline....? Was that for the bones?
I'm crossing my fingers that Miguel will be home for good at thanksgiving!
i'm coming to you instead of my dad the next time i'm sick, for sure. thanks for the awesome advice along with explanation. when you bust out with stuff like that, it makes me so jealous that you are still going to college. i want to go back so bad, but obviously have to wait a while. i don't even have anything specific i want to do, i just loved it.
and don't blame yourself for not making eye contact with the robbers. i wouldn't have either. it's cuz we are normal. people who snoop aren't. but they are the ones who get on shows like COPS or JAIL.
LOVE YOU!!!
Ewww, scary-ville! I was laughing though because you talk about skinning and squirrel and messing with its' bones like it's an everday occurence. I know it's for you class but I still though it was hilarious. I picture you having a freezer full of roadkill.
