Maybe I'm just a heartless mother, but this picture just cracks me up. It's so typical Leyla. Yes, the baby that used to be so mellow and easy to take care of is now a screaming little monster that I just love to death. She's really good after 10:00 pm and is pretty good through the mornings too. But once 3:00pm rolls around, she's fussy and needs to be held and comforted and fed pretty much straight through until 9:00 or 10:00 in the evening. This has been a little tough for me because Chloe's been sleeping from 7:00pm to 7:00am for so long that I've grown accustomed to having the evenings to myself to get housework and other things done. Well, now my evenings are spent consoling Leyla so I guess I'll just have to find a new time to get my housework done.
Despite Leyla's 5 to 7 hour long fussy periods, Leyla is still a joy. She absolutely LOVES to get kisses. Part of my consoling regimen includes putting Leyla on the floor and giving her kisses over and over. She gets a big cheesy, toothless smile every time I kiss her, complete with dimples. It's so adorable. And Chloe loves her little sister to death. She gives Leyla kisses all the time (she never gives me kisses) and she even tries to pick her up so she can hold her. Sometimes when Chloe's on the couch next to me, I let Chloe hold her (which means I hold Leyla over Chloe's lap and Chloe puts her arms around Leyla). I don't know how long Chloe's affection for Leyla will last, but I'm loving every minute of it.
Speaking of Chloe, her vocabulary is growing by the day. One of her favorite words is "tree" and the Christmas season has been exciting for her because there are trees everywhere, which allows her to point and yell out tree every time she sees a tree, which is quite often this time of year. Actually, she doesn't yell out tree, she really has a quiet speaking voice, even when she's scolding me for playing her piano. Yes, that's right, she thinks the big piano is hers. I set her up on the bench today because she wanted to play and I was playing the melody to a christmas song. She very matter-of-factly took my finger in her hand, pulled it off the keys and said "mine."
Well, Leyla is awake and screaming AGAIN, so I better go.

Aww... that IS pretty sad! I can see a stronger resemblance to Chloe in that pic - the sad little mouth? Hopefully she will outgrow this phase soon - I still maintain that she is uncomfortable -tummy?- from the sound of her crying. And why else would she wake up from a sound sleep after only 20 minutes screaming. I'm sorry.
Sounds like Miss Chloe is really beginning to assert herself. How Dare you touch HER piano! Hope today goes a little better for you.
