As a Christmas present to me, my friend from church wanted to watch the girls so that Miguel and I could go on a date. Today was the decided day. However, as of this morning, our date plans were still undecided.
The Ferry
Miguel suggested we go on the ferry in Port Aransas. I had heard about the ferry and was told by someone who should have known better that the ferry involved fun and dolphins. So, we dropped the girls off at 11:00 this morning with Katherine and drove about 30 minutes to Port Aransas to board the ferry. I nervously drove my car onto the boat, set the parking brake, turned off my engine and waited for the all-clear to exit my vehicle. Miguel and I stood in the 2 foot wide area between our car and the rail on the boat and looked out at the water. We saw a bird. Then we saw that the ferry was already at its destination. I don't know what I was smoking, but I remember reading on the internet this morning that the ferry ride was 2.7 miles long and took 18 minutes. More like the ferry ride took 2.7 minutes and covered 18 yards. Once we were on the other side, we had to drive another 30 minutes to get back into Corpus Christi.
The Restaurant
I was still determined to make our date day something special, so I suggested we go try out the Italian restaurant downtown that we had been wanting to go to for almost 3 years now. Miguel wasn't sure if it was open for lunch (It was 12:15 at this point). I wanted to find out for myself, but on the way, I spotted a restaurant called Katz 21. I had heard that this was a nice restaurant, and since Miguel and I were both dressed up for our date and we've never been to a nice restaurant together, I thought we should try it out. I parked out front, and we walked in. Something was amiss because there was no one in the reception area and all the lights were out. I thought I saw a sign that said they were open for lunch. So we walked back out and determined that we had wandered in the lounge that doesn't open until 5:00pm. We managed to locate the restaurant entrance and were informed it would be a 10 minute wait. No big deal. We sat at the empty bar and chatted until our name was called. Then we were led to the back of the restaurant and were seated. It was a nice restaurant: white linen tablecloths and napkins, crystal stemware for the water, a little candle on the table, intricate wood moulding and paneling. About 5 minutes after being seated, our waiter showed up and asked if we were ready. I told him I needed another minute to decide. After waiting for 15 minutes for our waiter to return and take our order, we just got up and left.
Taqueria Jalisco
After being let down at the fancy restaurant, we decided to go with an old favorite: Taqueria Jalisco #1. Corpus Christi has a lot of Taqueria Jalisco's, but #1 is truly number one. It's located in what I call the "scary part of town," but it's the real deal. We ordered, received, and ate our meal in less time than we sat around in the fancy restaurant, and the food was fabulous. And I was a lot more comfortable there, too. I guess Miguel and I are just more at home in restaurants that get failing grades from "kitchen cops."
My Girls
After eating an extremely satisfying and long overdue lunch, we both missed our girls and went to pick them up from Katherine's house. I love my little girls so much. Chloe is so much fun. She keeps herself busy busy busy. She walks around the house with her little belly sticking out and always seems to have an agenda. And Leyla is so sweet. She is such a smiler and seems to be a lot less dramatic than Chloe. I think Leyla's going to be a lot quieter than Chloe. But I could be wrong. Well, I'd better get to bed.

Ahh what a memorable day! Makes for a good story though. I'm glad you and Miguel got to spend some nice time together - especially the 2 minute ferry:0)
I think the Taqueria sounds pretty good and you didn't have to worry about spending too much money while you're counting your pennies.
You are right, your girls ARE precious. I was finally able to watch the goodby video where Miss Chloe is so tickled with her ablity to open and close the door. Very nice. And Miss Leyla looks so cute. Good times all around
Great story. Such a classic. I'll bet the "kitchen cop" food was better and more relaxing the the swanky Italian stuff anyway.
How nice of your friend to offer though! Thats cool.
I am glad you guys left the fancy restaurant. Probably would have been overpriced and who wants to wait 15 minutes to order....I am glad you got to go on a date and it is so sweet you missed your girls like that. What a good mom!
