Busy day

My day today started at 5:30am. That's nothing unusual as that's when I'm supposed to get up in order to get the gym before work. However, today it started at 5:30 because of Leyla's screaming. She's been waking up more than usual the past two nights and it's been really hard to get her to calm down and get back to sleep. Both Miguel and I suspected she had an ear infection, but working out the logistics of getting her to her doctor just wasn't working out. So I decided this morning that I'd take her to the children's hospital instead of waiting around for her doctor's office to open. If I took her to her usual doctor's office, the whole ordeal would end up taking the entire morning, and I knew they really needed my help at work today. So I took her to the Children's ER, knowing full well that her illness was no emergency, but also knowing that if I didn't do it, she'd go another day without being treated, and who knows how bad it would get before I could get her to her doctor. OK, I'm dragging this out. The point is, she does have an ear infection, and I was able to get her diagnosed and pick up her prescription and get to work by 9:15 (only 1.5 hours late). And she is already improving.

When I got to work, they put me right to work with recording measurements of individual shrimp that were being removed from some of the tanks. We are done with two of the studies, so we were taking all the shrimp out of the tanks, weighing and measuring them, and separating them so they could be sent out for tissue analysis. The ones that were not being used for analysis were handed out to us employees. So today I brought home a big huge bag of fresh shrimp for Miguel (I don't like sea food). In the afternoon I actually helped with the harvest and netted 20 tanks worth of shrimp. They were jumping all over the place and trying to stab me with their rostrums and telsons. It was mayhem. Anyway, I know this was kind of boring, so sorry if you actually read it, but I wanted to write about today for some reason. But it's late now and I need to get to bed.

How could any post that uses the words rostrum and telsums be boring? Sounds like a busy, but productive day. It's not everyone who gets to handle that much wildlife in a day.
