Leyla has only slept through the night a handful of times. She is currently screaming so loud that there is no way I can sleep through it, even with earplugs and a pillow over my head. I went in a changed her diaper and gave her some tylenol. I'm not giving her a bottle though.
She had dinner at around 6:30 (turkey meatloaf and greenbeans). She ate as much as she wanted, and then I fed her a few more bites until she started spitting it out. Then she had an 8 oz. bottle of whole milk at around 7:45. I put her to bed at 8:00. It is now 4:50am, and she's screaming her head off. I know if I give her a bottle, she'll stop, but I don't want to perpetuate the cycle. She just turned a year old. So, what do you think? Am I not feeding her enough? Is there something more I need to be doing to get her to sleep through the night? I really don't think it's too much to ask of a one year old to sleep for 10 hours at night, especially since she hardly naps at all during the day. However, maybe I have unrealistic expectations. Maybe Chloe was an unusually good sleeper and it's tainted my perspective on the issue (she slept for 12 hours a night at this age). Maybe I'm being selfish trying to get a full night's rest. I just don't know.

You are NOT being selfish and no, it isn't stoo much to expect. She may require less sleep than Chloe. but, she just needs to get into the habit of sleeping through the night. It's going to be a rough time til you get her trained. But hang in there. Consistency is the key. You'll be sleep drprived for some nights but in the long run it will pay off. You can do it!
I totally agree with your mom. I am also all about the motherly instinct, I would just follow what you feel you should do and can feel comfortable with. You are a great mom. If you think she is just crying out of habit I would totally let her cry it out, but if you think she is in pain then maybe comfort her somehow. Not that I have tons of experience at all, but the little bit that I have, I think consistency is the most important thing.
