So this morning started off alright. I found out that my broken VW window is probably covered by warranty. The bad news is I can't get it fixed until Monday. But, when I go to Idaho Falls to get it fixed, I can finally pick up a new (or at least new to me) visor from a junk yard for $20. So that's good. I also talked to Tim at my old/current work at the shrimp farm. He's going to talk to Dr. Samocha about job possibilities for me. If they can give me a decent raise, I'd love to go back. I really love that job, and it's got normal working hours, so I wouldn't have much trouble finding a sitter or maybe a less-expensive daycare for the girls. So, that was encouraging.
But then, I decided I'd call Idaho Central Credit Union to find out what my current balance is. It should have been around $800. I called the automated system and was told my balance is negative two hundred and something dollars. What??? I about lost it and called them right up.
Here's what happened. In my hurry to get out of Texas, I realized I had lost a debit card that had $970 on it. The money is what's left over from my student loans, and the school distributes loans by putting the balance on this debit card from Frost bank. The whole thing is a total pain in the ass. Anyway, I called frost bank, and they said the quickest way for me to get access to my money was to go online and have a check sent to myself. So that's what I did. I wrote the check out for a little less than the remaining balance. The check was here waiting for me when I got to Idaho, and I deposited it in my Idaho Central bank account. And then I didn't worry about it because it's a freaking bank check, and I knew I had the funds to cover it. Well, turns out Frost bank decided to return the check to Idaho Central with absolutely no explanation as to why. And because of that, I now have $108.88 in overdraft and returned check fees. Needless to say, I was (and still am) a bit livid. I called up frost bank, and the lady had no idea what had happened. My frost bank account shows a balance of $1.00. Apparently $970.00 seems to have vanished into thin air. She said she's going to submit some sort of request to figure out what happened and they'll send me an e-mail in 24-48 hours. That's not soon enough as far as I'm concerned. But what can I do? I'll tell you one thing, I'm not paying those $108 in fees. But guess who is? Frost bank. They don't know it yet, but this is all their fault, so they had better pay up. What a big, stupid mess. I wonder how many of my bills are going to be late as a result of this mess.
