If you've never been a breastfeeding mother, you probably won't appreciate this entry

With Leyla, I've had an abundant supply of milk from day one. In fact, I was producing too much milk and I had to make an effort to not pump so much so that I didn't have to get up 3 times a night between feedings to pump milk. But somehow, over the weekend, my milk supply plummeted. Normally when I pump milk at school, I get 8 ounces between classes. Today I only got 4. I couldn't figure out what happened, so I decided to do some on-line research to see if I could find out what more I can do to get my milk supply back up besides just pumping and nursing more often. I didn't really find any good advice, but I think I did find the culprit. Stress. Since Miguel left, I've had to take care of everything myself, and it's time consuming and stressful. I haven't been getting as much sleep, my house is a disaster (which stresses me out), studying for school is pretty much a thing of the past, and my grades are a good indicator of that. If stress decreases milk supply, then consider mine seriously decreased. I have to go wake Leyla so I can give her a bath and try to force her to eat. And then I have to try and study for my test tomorrow. I already flunked one of my midterms (and no, I'm not exaggerating, I literally earned an F), and I don't want to make it two.

Ahh sweet girl... the house will survive, the grades are just well, grades - not an indicator of who you are (though sometimes we invest a lot of ourselves into them - I'm a fine one to tell you that!) But, bottom line your health and the health and safety of your little girls are what counts. Please try to let go of the things that don't really matter and enjoy the things that do.
You are amazing - whether you produce 8 - 4 or 0 ounces of leche.
