Quick update

It looks like Miguel is going to be okay. When I got there, the EMT and the nurses kept saying how lucky he was. He was lucky the forklift didn't run over his head. He's pretty much lucky to be alive. He said he really thought he was going to die. But for now, all he has are a few fractured ribs, and I think some bruising on his lung. He's at the ICU overnight where he can't have any visitors until 8:00 tomorrow morning. He should be ok though.

So what exactly happened? Well, it seems to be an extreme case of irony. He wears a safety harness that has a hook thing attached to it so he can tie off when he's working on the bridge. That way, if he falls, the harness will save him. However, he wasn't on top of the bridge, he was driving a forklift. Don't ask me how, but the hook on his safety harness somehow got caught up in the back wheel of the forklift, and it proceeded to pull him under the back tire of the lift. It drove over his arm and stopped on his chest. He was still able to yell for help and one of the other workers tried to put it in reverse, but it was sticking. So for some amount of time, he had a forklift sitting on his chest. They were able to get it into reverse and off his body. Then they called the ambulance.

Now we have some big questions to answer. We knew Miguel couldn't do this kind of work for much longer, but we figured he could hang in there until I finished school. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if he can't ever go back to demanding physical labor. And if that's the case, then he's going to have to get some training in order to get a job above minimum wage. I dunno... I just hope this doesn't turn out like an episode of "House" and he suddenly goes from looking just fine to having seizures and stuff.

I am glad that he is going to be ok, at least it is not life threating. Hopefully he can find a good job when he heals. I will keep you guys in my prayers.

Ok I think there is something weird in the universe. Just a lot of accidents, deaths and illness in people I know just now.
I'm so glad all is ok for now. It could have been soooo much worse, as you said.
Let's hope workmans comp will take care of this. AND, if your worst scenario did come true (e.g. he could not work hard labor) he would have to be compensated for life.

Let's hope that is not the scenario. Try to sleep. All that stress will dry up your happy milk supply.

I am so glad to hear he is okay and in stable condition. What a blessing that it wasn't life threatening! Hopefully he will heal quickly and find a job a little less physical.

Sounds like he still has stuff to do here or that accident could have easily taken him. I'm grateful his injuries were not any worse and hope that no long lasting complications turn up.
I concur with celiac - try to get some rest and not worry about things over which you have no control. It WILL all work out! Love to you both.
