This did not end well.

I know this photo's dark, and I probably could have fixed it in photoshop, but I don't feel like waiting for the application to open. In case you can't see what it is, it's Chloe taking a nap in her crib with her naked butt hanging out. I came home from a half day work today. Miguel had been watching the girls, and they were both asleep when I got home. Leyla woke up shortly thereafter and needed a diaper change, which meant I had to sneak into Chloe's room to get diaper. I carefully opened the door, and was greeted by Chloe's naked little butt. My first inclination was to blame Miguel for putting her to bed without pants. But I decided before I jumped to conclusions, I should look closer. And sure enough, her pants were in bed with her, indicating that she had removed them herself. I didn't want to wake her, so I just decided I'd deal with the problem once she woke up. I thought I'd be able to rush in the moment she woke up and get a diaper on her before anything bad happened. Wrong. By the time I could tell she was awake, it was too late. I don't know how she did it, but when I went in her room, her diaper was on the floor and right next to it was a fresh poo. But there was no indication that any part of her body or anything in her crib had made contact with the poo. The only thing I can figure is that she stuck her butt against the rails in order to relieve herself and not mess up her bed. Needless to say, she received bath and thorough scrubbing and all her bedding is in the wash. And, I brought out the potty chair and pull-ups. We're starting potty training this weekend.

Here are a couple videos of Chloe talking. She has such a cute voice.

I saw a live, wild scorpion at work yesterday. That's the first one I've ever seen. It wasn't too big, but it was pretty cool. I also counted hundreds of shrimp and ended up with a sunburned neck and sore back because of it. And to answer Chuck's question, I'm not exactly sure what they do with the shrimp once they reach full size. I know some of them go to the brood stock tanks to breed and make more little shrimp. The shrimp we're raising are used in different studies. They're pretty much trying to develop a fish meal-free food that provides the most shrimp meat for the smallest amount of food. One of the biggest problems with aquaculture is that we're using fish to make more fish. The fish meal that's going into the food for hatchery fish could be used to feed people. So once an acceptable soy-based food is developed, aquaculture will probably be a lot more acceptable practice and may help alleviate some pressure on some of the fisheries that are crashing (which more of them are).

Sorry about that. I get all caught up in biology global crisis stuff.

My mom was writing in her blog about how fortunate we have it now, especially compared to our ancestors who traveled to America. I had some of the same thoughts the other day. Miguel was watching the spanish news and sort of translating it for me. Apparently there's somewhere in Mexico that flooded 6 months ago, and the people are still living in flood water. The little kids are playing around in it and they're living in a little shack that's all filled with water. I looked around my living room and told Miguel that our ugly maroon carpet was looking pretty good right about now. Sometimes I focus too much on what I want, and don't appreciate what I have. Sure my carpet's ugly and has an icky feeling about it, but at least my house isn't filled with untreated water harboring all sorts of parasites.

Well, Miss Chloe is creative, not only with her words, but also with poo. That makes me laugh, especially since I didn't have to clean it up. I can't believe how smart that lil bugger is! Thanks so much for posting the videos. I LOVE those.
I concur with the sentiments about how good we have things. It's really easy to get caught up in what we want, or we don't have and to lose sight of all the really great things we do.
I hope they can figure out the soy thing so we can get a better balance on things. Then if we could just get some of those alternate sources of fuel and energy going...

Oh yeah, someone is ready for panties! Too funny.
She is such a little parrot too. I like how she not only repeats what you say, but also tries to mimic the tone you are speaking in. And how about those ABC's?
I'm thinking the apple didn't fall far from the tree on this on.
Thanks for sharing all, and good luck with the potty training weekend!
