Travel Time

Our trip is finally coming to an end. The girls are napping right now, and as soon as they wake up, I'll pack everyone and everything in the car, and we'll head into Pocatello to make one last visit to one of my favorite people, and then we'll go meet my mother at Poky High so we can all drive to the Idaho Falls airport. We'll fly from IF to Denver, and then to San Antonio, assuming we don't have any trouble and the flights don't randomly fill up at the last minute. It's going to be a long day because the flight doesn't get into San Antonio until 11:00pm, and then I still have to get our checked luggage, ride the shuttle to our car, hope that my broken trunk stayed shut while I was gone, and then drive 2 hours to Corpus Christi.

Speaking of the broken trunk, I'm not sure I ever wrote about that. Let me do that right now so anyone reading this can learn from my mistake.

The day after Miguel left for Virginia, I wanted to get out of Corpus ASAP because of the mosquitoes, and because I couldn't work anymore, and I was going to go stir crazy. So, I was in a big hurry trying to get everything squared away before I took off. I had to get to work before noon to drop some things off. On my way, some lady rear-ended me at a stop light. It was a pretty light hit. Light enough that I thought maybe I had accidentally stalled the car somehow. However, I knew I hadn't stalled the car, so I got out and asked her if she had just hit me. She said "yeah, I just bumped you. Do you want to pull over and exchange information?" She said it in a tone that indicated she didn't want to pull over at all. I took a quick look at my bumper, and there was not even a scratch in the paint, so I said no and got back in my car. I was in a hurry, and I had Chloe with me, so I didn't want to deal with it. Plus, everything LOOKED fine.

The next day, I noticed that the little red light that indicates when a door is ajar would not turn off. I went around the car several times shutting the doors and trunk to make sure everything was properly closed. I then noticed that my trunk had not been latching. Somehow, when the lady hit me, it screwed up the locking mechanism on my truck. And I didn't get her insurance information. So now, when I get home, I get to pay to have it fixed out of my own pocket.

Moral of the story: if you get in an accident, no matter HOW SMALL, exchange information!!! I sure wish I had.

I"m sorry that you have to fix your car from your own pocket. But think of this way, luckly you and kid are safe and that's the most important thing. I totally understand how you feel when you have to travel all day with little kids. Hope you got home safely.

Dang that totally stinks! I am so sad that we are so close and yet so far away :) It would have been so fun to see you...maybe next time. The good news is that both our parents live in Inkom, so I think the odds are pretty good.
