Candies!! Purple candies!! (Halloween 2008)

A few weeks ago, I bought all the supplies to make a couple of vintage (1960's era) flight attendant uniforms for the girls for Halloween. Of course, I never got around to making them.. until 5:15 last night. After about 2 hours, this is what I came up with:

I wanted to make their costumes so that I could take them out trick-or-treating for the first time. By the time I got everyone dressed, it was already 8:00 and pretty dark, so I figured we'd just go to the first house we could find with the light on. We had to walk to the end of the street, and on the way, a kitten decided it would accompany us. Once we got the house, I rang the doorbell, but the girls were too interested in the kitten, and when the man opened the door, they were both on the other side of the porch with their backs to the front door. Once they saw that he had candy, they made their way over the door. Chloe wasn't quite sure what to do. She kept taking a piece and then putting it back in the bowl. While Chloe was trying to figure out what to do with the bowl of candy, the kitten invited itself into the man's house. I guess he has a new cat now.

After that house, we tried the next one with their light on, but they didn't have any candy. Not a big deal. We were in it for the experience, not the candy. We headed home after that, and a guy came running out of his house to give us all his candy. We hadn't stopped by his home because he had a big fence. Apparently we weren't the only ones who passed the house by, because he had lots of candy to get rid of.

When we came home, Chloe got in the candy and had some chocolate (which is what she has in her mouth in the above picture). Then she had some skittles. When she poured them out, she shouted "Candies!! Purple candies!" She promptly ate half the bag and then carried around the rest for about 30 minutes and talked about them for most of those 30 minutes. Once they were all sweaty and were starting to lose their color, she finally ate the remaining candies.
And this is the ONLY picture I could get of Leyla with her stewardess hat on. You can see her with her hand on the hat...
...and her holding the hat after removing it.
Chloe was much better about keeping the hat on her head.

The color's a little bit crazy on some of these photos. It was kind of dark in the kitchen, so I just used the autofix button in photoshop, and it made the colors kind of funky, but at least you can see what's going on.

So that's it for the girls' first trick-or-treating experience. It was short and sweet, but of course my description has turned into an epic novel. Big surprise.

Tomorrow I'll write about shrimp harvest.

They look hilarious! The big buttons are they no?
You are a crazy insane impulsive good mom.

Purple candies indeed. In a few years a cat won't keep them from any candy.

I have a confession-I cleaned right before I took all of those pictures and took them promptly after because I knew it wouldn't stay that way for long. I feel like my house is constantly a wreck after picking up after my husband all day long-so all I can say is at least you have kids as an exuse. If you could see it right now you would know that it is definintly never that clean :0)! Cute outfits, I think I am going to try to learn to sew this year!
