We have a new routine, or schedule, if you will. I just thought it up today. Last time Miguel left to work out of state, I decided to channel my inner Katherine Smith and Jenna Holmes and try to keep my house neat and tidy every day. To my amazement, I was actually able to do it. I kept on top the all the dishes and cleaning and the house was "nice and neat" (as Chloe's been saying lately) at the end of every day.
However, this time around, things haven't been going that way. Quite honestly, I've wasted a lot of time playing Tetris. Maybe it's a coping mechanism, maybe I'm just lazy. Not sure. But I realized a few days ago that getting to work late and having to make up the hours by working at home is more stress than it's worth. The point is, I need to get to work by 8:00. Which means I need to be up by 6:00, which, in turn, means I need to start using an alarm again.
So here's the schedule I've set for me and girls. I really hope I can stick to it. (this is more for me than anyone else. In fact, if you're reading this, you can probably just stop now.)
AM
6:00-- alarm goes off
6:15-- actually get out of bed, change diapers
6:20-- start breakfast
6:45-- mom get dressed while girls eat
6:55-- end breakfast, clean up
7:05-- gather up shoes, purse, phone, etc.
7:15-- out the door
PM
5:45-- arrive at home, check mail
6:00-- start making dinner, wash any random dishes while food is cooking
6:15-- eat dinner
6:30-- bath time
6:50-- put on p.j.'s
7:00-- free time
7:30-- story time
7:45-- girls in bed, mom take a shower
8:00-- mom's free time
8:45-- house clean up and gather up shoes and clothes for the next day
10:00- mom in bed
I am not excited about this new schedule. I'm not a morning person, and I'm not usually a very structured person. I also like to waste a whole lot more time on the computer than this schedule allows, but oh well. Sacrifices need to be made. And I believe if I stick to the schedule, it should cut down on some of the stress in my life.
According to the schedule, I only have 20 minutes of free time left, so I better go waste some time doing something else now.

You make me laugh! Being constantly neat and tidy is not for everyone, and I assure you if I were working like you and raising two girls on my own, I would not have as clean a house as I would like! I think the structured schedule is admirable, though. Having a routine has saved my life as a mother! Good luck with it!
I bet this will work well for you once you get into the routine. It's always a trial getting started, but once you get into it I bet you'll find you feel better all around. Good luck sweetie!
If there's one thing I've learned in the past week it's that KIDS NEED ROUTINE!!!! I spent the weekend with my sister and nephew and on Sunday at 1:00 a.m. Haylen was STILL bouncing off the walls. I think kids need to know what to expect next, ya know? Good luck with the new schedule! Once you get going with it I'm sure it will be easy.
