Flooding
I guess all that rain in central Texas finally made its way down here. Yesterday morning it was pouring on my way to school, but it cleared up by the time class let out. Today started out beautiful, and I hadn't watched the weather report, so I wore a nice little sun dress and straightened my hair. By the time my first class let out, it was pouring. And we were still getting dumped on by the time my second class got out. And it was cold, too. I hung around campus for a little while hoping it would clear up, but it didn't look like it was going to let up, so I went back out into the rain and got soaked yet again while walking to my car. The drive between school and Chloe's daycare is only about 1.5 miles, but it was horrible! It was raining so hard, and parts of the road were flooded. But I made it ok. The daycare director suggested I take the expressway to get home and just drive slow because all the city streets were going to be flooded. I took her advice and drove slowly down the expressway til my exit. Someone in a huge Ford SUV didn't drive slow, and their stupid SUV was on its side in the middle of the road. Anyway, everything was going fine until I got off on my exit. The stop light was pretty much a river. I thought I could outsmart it and pull into a church parking lot and bypass the flooded intersection, but the parking lot didn't reach far enough, and the water was just as bad, if not worse, exiting the parking lot. So I put on my parking brake, turned off the car and waited. I probably sat there for 20 to 30 minutes waiting for the water to go down since it was no longer raining. I watched several people go through the water and tried to determine just how bad that was for their car. It didn't look good. Luckily, Chloe was being a very good girl. She quietly played with her shoe the whole time. I took some pictures of the flooded road with my phone, and I've been trying to send them to my e-mail so I can post them, but apparently I don't know how to do that. There was a news crew at that intersection, so I'll check their site later and see if they have any pictures of it and I'll post a link.

I've started giving Chloe her baths in the kitchen sink. This has really helped my back out a lot since I don't have to lean over all the time to wash her. Plus, it saves water! We usually take care of bath time right after dinner since dinner's usually such a huge mess. You can see bits of green beans in the bottom of the sink in one of the pictures. Those came off Chloe.
And this is a tiny little frog that I found sitting in the window frame of my kitchen door last night. My guess is he was catching bugs since there were tons of insects buzzing around the door since I had the porch light on. Finding the frog would have been much more useful to me last semester, but it was still fun to see. And as you can see, it's in a baby food jar. It was really small.

Hey Kelsey,
I can so relate to your flooding! In the monsoons the streets of Tucson are rivers and you just have to stay inside until it passes. There is always some idiot who gets trapped and nearly dies or dies in a wash!
Glad you survived.
love,
c
I remember the fun little rainstorm last summer while I was there. I can imagine what it would be like for one that lasted longer. Wow!
